How to add a job application form to your website for free

If your company is hiring, adding a job application form to your website is a simple way to let visitors know you’re open to candidates.

It also helps streamline your hiring process by collecting submissions in one place, so your team won’t have to sort through emails or LinkedIn messages.

Even if you don’t have technical experience, you can place a simple form on any page of your website in just a few minutes. It will look like a “We’re hiring” button that expands into a form when clicked – just like the example below.

Once someone fills out the form, you’ll receive their information by email and can reply directly from your inbox.

In this guide, we’ll show you how to create a job application form using Getsitecontrol – an easy-to-use website form builder. Plus, we’ll feature more form templates you can customize and add to your website.

Step-by-step: How to add a job application form with Getsitecontrol

Below, we’ll walk you through customizing the template, selecting the pages to display the form, and setting up notifications.

Step 1. Add the template to the dashboard

To get started, select the form template featured above and click Get this template → to add it to your Getsitecontrol dashboard.

You’ll be prompted to create an account, and once you do, the template will be automatically sent to editing mode.

Step 2. Adjust the text on the form

In the Design tab, you can start by editing the text on the panel. For example, you may want to change the title from “Job application” to “Join our team” or “We’re hiring”. This is the only text visitors see before opening the form, so make it compelling.

You can edit any other piece of text on the form, including field names and placeholders, by clicking on it and using the editor on the right.

Step 3. Add custom fields

To remove a field, click it and choose ‘Remove field’ on the right. If you need to create a new field, use the + Add field option on the right, or hover over the existing fields and select +.

Next, choose the field type: dropdowns, checkboxes, radio buttons, hidden fields, or another format.

Then go ahead and customize the new field settings.

Step 4. Customize submission success message

Once your prospective candidates fill out the form, they’ll see a form submission success message. It’s housed on the second page of the form. Navigate to page-2 to edit the text of the message.

Use this page to thank applicants, explain what happens next, and share contact info.

Step 5. Decide where you want to display the job application form

At this point, the form is ready to go live. By default, the “Join our team!” panel will be visible sitewide. However, if you want to display it on selected pages, open the Targeting tab and type the URLs of those pages in the first field.

Step 6. Enable email alerts for new applications

If you want to receive instant email notifications whenever someone fills out your job application form, switch to the Integrations tab and set up Email notifications.

Using the same tab, you can integrate the form with Google Sheets or any other third-party apps you’re using for business.

Once you’re finished, hit Save & close and follow the prompts to activate the form on your website.

💡 Before your form goes live, make sure Getsitecontrol is connected to your site. Connecting Getsitecontrol is a straightforward process that requires zero coding knowledge. You can either follow the prompts in your dashboard or read the instructions for your website platform.

How to view job application form submissions

Even without integrations, you can manage all form submissions from your Getsitecontrol dashboard. To access them, select Responses on the form card in your dashboard.

The report includes a detailed overview of each form submission as well as a summary of submissions. You can filter applications by country or period, view them one by one, download them in bulk, or email the respondents directly from the dashboard.

If you prefer to use a floating button instead of a panel to feature your job application form, below is a tutorial to guide you.

Want a floating “We’re hiring” button? Here’s how to add one

Unlike the panel that expands, a floating button (also called “launcher”) launches a modal popup upon click. This is what it looks like 👇

To implement this option, follow the instructions below.

Step 1. Select a form template

For this scenario, we recommend using fullscreen forms because they provide more space for extra fields and create a distraction-free experience for the applicant. Below is the form template we’re suggesting.

So, the first step is to click on the template and add it to your Getsitecontrol dashboard.

Step 2. Customize the text, form fields, and appearance

Using the right-side menu, you can change the image on the form, edit any piece of text, adjust, delete, or add new form fields.

Keep in mind that you can also change the submission success message. Navigate to the Pages —> page-2 to see what it looks like or customize the text.

Step 3. Fine-tune form displaying settings

Move to the Targeting tab and find the Start displaying widget field. Remove the default condition saying that the form should be displayed “automatically”. You’ll get the following message: “The widget won’t appear on the site automatically, but you can trigger it programmatically”.

This means that the form will only pop up when a visitor clicks on the floating button, a.k.a. the launcher 👇

Step 4. Select a launcher template

Once you’re finished with the form, it’s time to select the launcher. Browse the gallery to choose a launcher template to your taste.

Then add it to the Getsitecontrol dashboard, following the same steps as before, and adjust the text on the button.

Editing the “We’re hiring” text on the launcher

It’s best if your copy is concise, yet specific. For example, if you’re only hiring for a specific position, it makes sense to mention exactly that in the text.

Step 5. Connect the launcher and the form

The last step is to connect the launcher and the form. To do that, go to the Container settings.

Remove the default “Open URL” action, hit + Add action, and select Show widget.

At the next step, select your job application form from the list of widgets.

Once that’s done, hit Continue → to save the launcher and close the editor.

Then follow the app prompts to activate the launcher and the modal popup form you’ve just created.

After you’ve connected Getsitecontrol to your website, the floating button will instantly go live on all pages, and when visitors click on it, it will launch the fullscreen form.

Add a simple job application form to your website today

By now, you should be ready to add a job application form to your website. A brief, single-page form is usually sufficient for early pre-qualifying. However, with Getsitecontrol, you can also create multi-page forms and ask as many questions as you want. And if you're just looking to collect inquiries, a simple contact button might be a better fit.

We hope you find the perfect addition to your team.
